A lot of people get caught up with the struggle of will power and motivation. They will go to a motivational seminar and get excited about success. They will be on fire for a short period of time and then fizzle out. The problem is motivation is temporary. Motivation gives you the what but not the why. Motivation is a good start but unless it can manifest into a burning desire, passion and enthusiasm it will not have the wings to soar.
Managers often ask the question ‘How can I motivate my team?’ The problem is they look for a simple solution like a team building day, expecting it to work like magic. They think that somehow by waving a magic wand they will become motivated. Even if you get the world’s most respected motivation al speaker, it’s unlikely to achieve anything more than a short term high. It generally does not result in the team being more motivated to work together. Why…because if there is not a clear reason, a motif for the individuals in that team, nothing much will move them. The same goes for personal motivation. Many people go searching for the magic motivation formula instead of just being clear about their purpose or reason.
At this level, inspiration has a spiritual quality. Dr Wayne Dyer points out that the word inspiration includes this dimension as ‘in-spirit-ion’. Literally the word inspire means to ‘breathe life into’ (the opposite of expire!).
Make sure your role models align with the areas in your life that you are passionate about, because it’s important to determine whether they are the source of Follow me that is most important to you right now.
If you are tired of pulling life with lots of strain and effort and would rather be pushed a lot with ease then contemplate on what really makes you come alive, what really brings you joy. Pursue it with all your heart trusting that everything will work out for you. Ask for guidance from your higher self, and act on the inspiration that you receive. So many people know what they want in life, they know what makes them happy but they are afraid to follow that dream. Worried about failure, worried about success, worried about bills, worried about family, friends, spouse. stop worrying and start living the life you were meant to live. Don’t leave the planet with regrets, should haves, and untapped talent. We only live once so we need to make the very best out of these years that we can.
When you want to achieve something that is important to you, just start the ball rolling. Start pushing that motivation ball until it creates its own momentum…and it will, and then it might even be hard to stop. As the famous Nike motto says ‘Just Do It!’ Or as the famous quote attributed to Johann Wolfgang von Goethe says: ‘Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it’.
For example, in my case, I work at routine tasks all day until about 5 pm, when I go for a walk and stop off for a beer. When I sit down, ideas come to me and I write them down. Sometimes, I’ll write an article like this one. Then, when I return home, I type it up and distribute it, which are again routine tasks. I do not get much chance to think while I am working. I get more creative work done away from my desk that sitting at it.
Imagination is the essential ingredient. Maintain your imagination, feed it often, exercise it daily, and it will serve you well. When you do, inspiration will take its proper place and do exactly what it is designed to do – feed the fire.
